Research: Horror Film of the Month!

The horror movie that’s got everyone talking this month is ‘Let Me In’. It featured at London Film Festival this year. It’s a deep, dark drama about childhood and loneliness. Based on the superb Swedish movie ‘Let the Right One In’ this American version (written by the same person) centres on a young boy who is friendless and relentlessly bullied at school. His isolation is broken when he is befriended by Abby who lives next door. But while he’s grateful to have a friend – a very intense one – he’s not quite prepared for what Abby is: a vampire. In my opinion, the unique selling point of the films is that they have completely re-invented horror with the main focus being children vampires. After Twilight, we all saw a rush of vampire films emerge; however, ‘Let Me In’ doesn’t follow the ‘bite me’ cliché. It’s rated ‘15’. Let’s face it; the last time any child vampire was heavily focused on was Kirsten Dunst’s character Claudia in 'Interview with the Vampire' (1994). I'm really looking forward to seeing this thrilling new genre unfold on screen!
