OFFICIAL Film Poster

Above are some examples of horror film posters and the Conventions used.

  • You can see that the name of the films are in red and stand out againt the more dull background. The font is in a graphic style. MARA uses a blood print style font that symbolises part of the
  • A maximum of 3 colours are used on the poster so that there is continuity, this is also visually stimulating. It ensure that the colours are vibrant yet not over used or complicated.
  • The layout of the poster ensure that all the important information is presented to the audience and that everything you need to know about the film, is where you expect to find it.
  • A central figure is used to hint at the type of genre and context of the horror and attract the target audience. MARA uses a female in her underwear which is provocative, yet tells us she has been taken out of her natural environment.
  • The star/actor is highlighted almost always, in every film poster.
  • The least important information, is put at the bottom of the poster, although credit is due to the producers and directors, audiences are more interested in the context/plot of a film, so it’s always bigger and bolder. The credits are included so they can be seen when searched for.
  • The taglines are central or above the name of the film.
Here's our Film Poster for our teaser trailer/mock film REDEMPTION - Directed by me :)

As you can see we have conformed to the majority of conventions stated.
- Take for example the naming of the production company, the director, editor and producer at the bottom of the poster
- The 3 main cast members of the film and central and above the credits/crew members.
- The use for graphic blood stain/splattered font.
- A central and capturing tagline
- A stimulating yet frightening image, for example, we have used the image of a female’s tongue being pierced with a needle, this puts the audience at unease, as they imagine the prospect and pain of this actually taking place.
- The BBFC film rating (18)
