Psychoanalytic Theory


Theory Name: Psychoanalytic Theory
Theorists Name: Sigmund Freud
Definition: The conscious mind is what you are aware of at any particular moment, your present thoughts. Working closely with the conscious mind is what Freud called the preconscious. The unconscious are memories/thoughts not easily available to awareness, including instincts or memories and emotions associated with trauma.
Examples:  Born with innate ID, also called a ‘Super ego’, the Oedipus complex and Phallic symbolism.
